Comitán, Mexico: 7 Sex Trafficking Victims Rescued, 3 Suspects Arrested

On July 11, 2013 Milenio Noticias reported a police operation in Chiapas which resulted in the rescue of seven women and the arrest of three members of a trafficking gang.

The seven adult women, five Mexican and two from Guatemala, were being held captive at the “Cantina Alex” bar in the town of Comitán. The victims were forced into prostitution in a state of slavery, as they could not leave the establishment or communicate with people outside of it. During the operation, police also arrested Jairo Córdoba Santiz and Alicia García García, the alleged owners of the establishment, as well as Rosa María García García, who served as manager of the bar.
