Colombian Human Trafficking Network Operating in Argentina Disbanded

On June 13, 2013 El País reported that Argentinian authorities have dismantled a Colombian crime network which had kept 225 Colombians enslaved in Argentina. They had been victims of labor exploitation and were found in furniture workshops in the provinces of Córdoba, Mendoza, Misiones, San Juan, Santa Fe, Jujuy, Salta, Chaco, Tucumán and Buenos Aires.

The authorities conducted 72 simultaneous raids, in which 25 Colombians were arrested, including the head of the criminal organization, known as ‘The Accountant’. Police additionally issued two international arrest warrants. During the operation, police seized Argentinian and Colombian currency as well as documentation which contained debts acquired by the Colombian workers from members of the crime network.
