Colombia: Students, teachers demonstrate against privatization of education

Hundreds of students and teachers marched through the main Colombian cities, in what they called a demonstration of respect for public education, students and teachers, called by the Colombian Federation of Educators (FECODE). The day was disrupted by violent protests staged by some of the participants in the marches, especially in Bogota and Medellin, where they were used “potato bombs” (low-power explosives) against the security forces.

In addition, the windows of several shops in the Colombian capital were damaged by protesters, some of which were covered with scarves and hoods. According to Undersecretary of government in Bogotá, Edgar Ardila, these would be people who have infiltrated the march. Read Article
