Colombia: Prosecutor accuses notaries of fraudulent actions in land deals

Through alleged fraudulent and counterfeit titles by registrars, notaries, agricultural and municipal officials, some 40,000 hectares of peasants displaced from the region of Montes de Maria went on to become property of private companies and wealthy individuals.

The complaints of the scam which facilitated a massive sales phenomenon of abandoned land after displacing thousands of farmers under pressure from the paramilitaries and the guerrillas began to be heard by the authorities. Read Article
