Colombia, Pirated Seeds Cause Greater Costs Despite Initial Savings

•Eltiempo.com relates the case of Pompeya agriculturist José Adonaí Sánchez who has used rice seeds not approved by the ICA, and although they come at initially lower costs, they require greater expenditures in pesticides.
•Thus, it is suggested that farmers use seeds approved by the ICA in order to ensure the quality of the final products and prevent new insects or plant diseases detrimental to harvests.
•60% of the seeds in Pompeya are certified with 40% being “costal” or pirated. Read Article
