Colombia: Flower exports begin to recover

· Exportations of flowers have increased 40.5% in value and 23% in volume in the first two months of the year when compared with the same time frame in 2010.

· According to the data from the Administrative Department of Statistics and the Office of Taxes and Customs, 79.3% of “other flowers and buds” and 47.7% of roses increased in dollars.

· The principle international markets were the United States with $177.4 million, Japan with $10.1 million, and the Netherlands with $5 million.

· One of the worries of floriculturists is the revaluation of the U.S. dollar due to the expected exports and international commerce along with foreign investment in the U.S.

· The participation of floral products in the U.S. market has lowered by 1% from 2010 in the first trimester, and the export of stems to the U.S. has decreased 11% from 1.01 million in 2010 to 902.454. Read Article
