Colombia, 4,000 Oil Company Protestors Leave 6 Injured and Burned Vehicles

•The protests against 4 oil companies have left 6 people injured and several burnt vehicles in the Pacific Rubiales oil field in Meta, Colombia.
•Rcnradio.com reports that the protests were incited by the dismissal of 1,100 workers from the JM oil installation company.
•Complaints include labor exploitation, dangerous work conditions, and shifts of 30-40 days.
•Rodolfo Vecino, President of the Syndicate Workers Union (USO) denies any connection with FARC or other paramilitary groups.
•Protestors will continue the strike until they are able to meet with and discuss the improvement of conditions for the workers with Pacific Rubiales, Hocol, Cepcolsa, and Ecopetrol.
•Vicepresident of Pacific Rubiales Federico Restrepo states that the protest is against the contracting companies who have not fulfilled the labor conditions agreed upon for the workers.
•300 anti-riot officers have been deployed to the area.Read Article
