City Police in Cuiabá, Brazil, Handles 450 Child Abuse Cases in 2012

On January 27, 2013, 24 Horas News reported that in the city of Cuiabá, capital of the state of Mato Grosso, local police provided shelter for 450 victims of child abuse in 2012. Most of the crimes that required shelter were sexual in nature. The unit also conducted some 619 investigations of child abuse, compared to just 419 in 2011. According to Alexandra Fachone, spokeswoman for the agency, crimes involving children are generally done more carefully (and therefore consume more time) because of the psycho-social implications of child abuse.  Read Article
