City in Paraguay is key in the trafficking of women

The city of Alto Parana in Paraguay is one of the central areas involved in the crime of trafficking women. According to Diario Vanguardia, Paraguay is an exportation country when it comes to human trafficking. Alto Parana encounters particularly high rates of trafficking due to extreme poverty levels. Officials claim it is impossible to control trafficking, and that prevention and awareness is the best way to combat the crime. About 100 victims of trafficking have been recovered, which authorities say is a small number. These women have been recovered only because they have been discovered in other countries or report to Paraguayan officials themselves.
