City Councilman Arrested For Attacking Adolescent in Pará, Brazil

On January 16, 2013, Diário do Pará reported that a city councilman in the city of Curuá was arrested for assault and making death threats towards a 17-year old boy.  Diego Pereira de Araújo, 25, was accused of attacking and threatening the boy at a local market where the boy worked.  Araújo hit the boy with a stool and threatened him and his brother with a knife.  The councilman also accused the boy of having an affair with his wife.  The victim made a formal complaint on January 5th, and Araújo was formally arrested on the morning of the 15th.  Read Article
