Chile Files Response in Hague to Peruvian Lawsuit, Appeals to Ecuador

According to ElComercio.com on Monday July 11th Chile filed their defense to a Peruvian border demand presented before the International Court of The Hague, which included a recent border agreement between Peru and Ecuador that was favorable to the Chilean capital of Santiago. In 2008 Peru filed a complaint that stated a border was not defined between Chile and Peru in the Pacific Ocean. Chancellor Alfredo Moreno says that the text of their defense used the sovereignty given by Peru, Ecuador and Chile in the treaties of 1952 and 1954, which founded their maritime boundaries. Chile says, the maritime border has been defined in the afore mentioned treaties, while Peru claims that the agreements were only for fishing activity on the border waters and that the maritime border should be equidistant between the two countries.
