Canadian consortium signs deal with Ecuador for renewable energy

A consortium of Canadian renewable energy developers has signed a 20-year concession agreement with Ecuador’s Consejo Nacional de Electricidad to buy electricity from the nation’s combined 62.5MW solar PV plants. In total, the plants are expected to bring more than $200m in investment to the local economy and create 400 construction jobs. They are being developed as a result of strong government support for renewable energy, demonstrated by schemes such as the FIT policy brought in by CONELEC in early 2011. Read Article
