Brazil’s Huge JBS Meatpacker Expands Its Banking Arm .

The family that controls the world’s largest meatpacker, Brazil’s JBS SA (JBSAY, JBSS3.BR), on Monday took a small step toward expanding its banking arm, but more-ambitious plans for increasing the company’s financing clout are likely to follow. On Monday, holding company J&F announced the merger of its existing banking operations, Banco JBS, with those of small Brazilian bank Banco Matone. Brazil’s Batista family controls the JBS meatpacker through J&F, whose other holdings include a hygiene company and a pulp firm. Read Article
