Brazilian Supreme Federal Tribunal Rejects Detention of Deputy

On January 11, 2013, Folha de São Paulo reported that Federal Deputy Natan Donadon (PMDB-RO) will not be held in detention immediately, in spite of being convicted in 2010 of a money diversion scheme.  The Chief Justice of the Supreme Federal Tribunal, Joaquim Barbosa, rejected Attorney General Roberto Gurgel’s request to send the Deputy to prison on the grounds that there are still more questions to be answered in regards to Donadon’s sentence.  Donadon faces 13 years, 4 months and 10 days in prison once the case is processed entirely.  Read Article
