Brazilian Highway Police Makes Multiple Busts in One Day in Minas Gerais

On April 10, 2013, the Brazilian Federal Highway Police reported that authorities had a busy Tuesday on the highways in the state of Minas Gerais, seizing over 250 kilograms of marijuana, 100 kilograms of cocaine and derivatives, and hundreds of thousands of Brazilian reais (R$).  In one noteworthy incident in Araxá (BR-262), police arrested a man suspected of diverting funds from the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso.  They found R$790,000 in a backpack in his vehicle, denoted in R$100 bills, as well as 50,000 euros and R$58,000 in checks.  He was taken to the local delegation in Uberaba, where he will be questioned further.  Read Article
