Brazil-Spain: International Police Operation Captures Five Sex Traffickers, Including Brazilian Woman

On July 11, 2013 Mais Noticias Bahia reported the arrest of five international trafficking suspects in Spain, including a woman from Brazil. Meanwhile, four other trafficking suspects are still at large. Among the rescued victims are five Brazilians, including three from Goiás, one from Paraná and another from Rio de Janeiro. According to police investigation, the women were lured to Spain with false promises of work abroad and, upon arrival, were forced into prostitution in nightclubs. Females from Goiás were the main target of the criminal group.

The leader of the gang, who is among the suspects detained, also had an arrest warrant issued in Brazil. The detainees are being charge with international trafficking in persons for sexual exploitation. The police operation, dubbed “Operação Ninfas” (Operation Nymphs), is the second joint operation between the Brazilian and Spanish police to combat trafficking in persons this year. Read Article
