Brazil, Lowest unemployment rate for June in 10 years

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported today that the unemployment rate during the month of June was the lowest the country has seen in 10 years, according to abc.com.py. The unemployment rate of the economically active part of the population was at 6.2% this June, compared to 7% last year and 11.6% in 2002, when more stringent criteria in recording unemployment was implemented. In the six largest metropolitan areas in Brazil, 1.5 million people were looking for work, a number that is 10.4% lower than last June. The IBGE calculated that in the last year, 512,000 new jobs were created within the country. The report also showed that the average income in Brazil has gone up 4% in a year.
