Brazil: low income citizens receive culture voucher to stimulate arts

The Brazilian government has begun issuing reloadable magnetic cards that will credit those who earn under $300 a month with $20 to spend on culture. The “Vale Cultura” credits can be spent on books, museum entry, theater and movie tickets, and art and dance classes among other uses. The initiative is intended to stimulate an interest in culture among Brazil’s poor, who often have little access to books and the arts. Read Article
