Brazil: judge suspends construction on World Cup arena after death of construction worker

A Brazilian judge ordered a halt to construction of the Arena da Amazonia located in the city of Manaus, reported local media Thursday, a day after a worker died after falling from the roof of the stadium that will host World Cup matches Soccer 2014. Prosecutors asked that the work was detained pending an investigation, to ensure the safety of workers after the death of Marcleudo de Melo Ferreira, takes the fifth construction worker in death in stadiums being built for the 12 host cities of the World. “At noon today (Sunday) the work was suspended,” said prosecutor Jorsinei Dourado do Nascimento to Globo. “The news has already been released,” he said.
