On February 11, 2013, Jornal do Brasil reported that a farmer in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul was fined R$34,000 after police discovered that he had illegally cleared land.  The deforestation was found this Sunday after local Environmental Police did a check along the Paraguay River, which separates Brazil from Paraguay.  Police seized not only the wood that the farmer cut down, but also took his tractor and a loader used in the crime.  All activities on the farm are banned until further notice.  Read Article
