Brazil claims success in curbing organized crime along borders

Xinuanet.com reported that Brazil’s President Monday highlighted the success of her plan in thwarting organized crime along the border. Dilma Rousseff said in her weekly radio show, “Breakfast with the President,” that authorities have seized more than 3,650 tons of drugs and 2,200 firearms in a year and a half since the Strategic Border Plan was launched. “Even though public security is a responsibility of the states, in accordance with the Constitution, the federal government must take part in the improvement of public security through special programs,” she said.
