Brazil and Haiti Partnership to Reduce Human Trafficking Activity

On May 21, 2013, Terra reported that there is a collaborative effort between the Prime Minister of Haiti, Laurent Lamothe, and Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Patriota, to combat human trafficking activity in Haiti. The Brazilian Embassy in Haiti will help make aware and combat human trafficking efforts by “coyote” networks that transport Haitians to Brazil. An educational campaign will help assist Haitians on the advantages to legally migrate. In addition, the Prime Minister of Haiti is in Brazil to meet with officials and businessmen to establish effective partnerships in areas such as science, health, food security, and education. Other efforts by Brazil in Haiti, include building new community-based hospitals to provide necessary services. Read Article
