Brasilia, Brazil: Brazil Drops in International Competitiveness Ranking

agenciabrasil.ebc.com.br reported on September 3, 2013 that Brazil’s ranking of international competitiveness dropped eight spots according to the Global Competitiveness Report produced by the World Economic Forum. Brazil dropped from 48 to 56. Among the areas of concern in which Brazil dropped in its ratings include the necessity to improve institutions, the efficiency of the government, the means to combat corruption, and the trust in politicians. The document states the inability of Brazil to enhance the quality of its infrastructure and education with a closed economy is what has limited its competitive capability internationally.
