New Method for Trafficking Cocaine in Colombia Discovered by Authorities

El Informador reported on May 4, 2014 that Colombia’s Anti-Narcotics Police discovered a new method of trafficking cocaine. The agents discovered a shipment of handicrafts in the El Dorado International Airport in which 40 kilograms of cocaine were hidden. The handicrafts’ final destination was Barcelona and they were ordered by Italian citizen, Vinicio Logli. The director of Anti-Narcotics, General Luis Alberto Pérez, said that inside the boxes were ceramic boats that at first look did not seem abnormal. After canines alerted agents to the presence of drugs, they broke open one of the pieces and found bags containing cocaine hydrochloride in cream form. According to officials, this is the first time cocaine hydrochloride has been found in Bogotá in solution. The Anti-Narcotics office indicated that it will work to identify the network behind the shipment and chemical experts are checking the processes that changed the cocaine hydrochloride from a powder to a cream.
