Bogota, Colombia: New Human Trafficking Trends in Latin America

On July 23, 2013 ALER Noticias reported on a recent conference on human trafficking held in Bogota, Colombia. The conference was organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
One of the topics discussed at the conference was how human trafficking in Latin America has evolved over the last several years. Whereas in the past victims in the region were typically trafficked out of the region for sex and labor exploitation, begging or other forms of modern slavery, in recent years several Latin American countries have become routes for trafficking within the country.
