Arica, Chile: Two Ecuadorians Indicted on Charges of Human Trafficking

On April 3, 2013 Chilean newspaper La Nación reported that two Ecuadorians have recently been indicted in Arica on charges of human trafficking. Marcos Renteria and his brother Julio Valencia were arrested at the Chacalluta border crossing on Tuesday after attempting to smuggle 10 Ecuadorians posing as tourists into Chile. According to evidence presented in a formal indictment, the brothers conspired to recruit foreigners under the fraudulent promise of work. Read Article
