Argentine Senate bans human trafficking

The fourteen voting members of the Senate met yesterday and passed a law banning human trafficking in Argentina, according to diarioelargentino.com. The “Trafficking Act” was pushed through by the CTA and Red Alerta who also proposed the creation of a program for the Prevention, Assistance and Protection of Human Trafficking. The new law requires the branches of government to act quickly and diligently in cases involving human trafficking and to acknowledge that human trafficking is a breach of human rights. Sen. Aldo Ballestena fought for the law by presenting statistics on recorded cases of human trafficking within the country and by discussing the connection between the drug trade and child slavery.
