The Civil Registry of Rosario has authorized that twins born through artificial insemination on May 5 to a lesbian couple will have the last name of both their mothers. The couple, after working alongside the Comunidad Homosexual Argentina (CHA) and in coordination with the Equal Marriage Act enacted on July 15, 2010, listed both of their surnames on the birth certificates while still in the hospital. They were first denied the right to use both names on May 16 when a judge at the civil registry said that only the name of the biological mother would be listed. The Equal Marriage Act states that the name of both parties can and should be used. The couple is the first in the city to have children after the law was passed last year and felt discriminated against by the registry. CHA contacted the government of Santa Fe to renovate the problem and was pleased with the quick, effective results, according to diariojornada.com
