Argentina: Supermarket owner killed by Chinese Mafia

The Chinese owner of a supermarket in Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina was shot dead in his shop yesterday afternoon by two suspected members of the Chinese Mafia, reported lanacion.com.ar. According to police, the shop owner had been approached by Mafia members last week demanding he pay $50 thousand to ensure his safety. After refusing to pay, the owner, 35, was killed in his shop. The suspects did not steal anything from the store after the shooting occurred. There are more than 70 thousand Chinese immigrants living in Argentina today. One of their largest economic contributions to the community is through supermarkets. Four thousand Chinese supermarkets throughout the country supply 4.2 million people with food and goods.
