Argentina, Provinces adopt new electronic registration system to combat organized crime

Posted on June 3, 2011 • Filed under: Argentina, Intelligence, Organized Crime

The provinces of Argentina adopted a new electronic tracking and registration system this week that officials at the Federal Records Council hope will strengthen their fight against organized crime and money laundering within the country. The provinces have been given membership rights to the National Registration of Societies and the National Information System of Real Estate Records. This new, all-encompassing online database will give the Financial Intelligence Unit and local governments accurate and timely information on financial assets, trusts and property of suspected criminals. The Federal Records Council, created this year, focusses on coordinating policies on public registration between the Federal government and the provinces. This new registration plan will allow officials to access and share information to improve national security without violating a citizen’s federal rights.
