Argentina demonstration held in favor of abortion

A demonstration held last night in front of the National Congress demanded the legalization of abortion in Argentina. Demonstrators focussed on one idea; a “national campaign for the right to safe, legal and free abortion.” The event saw many speakers versed in political and social issues in the country along with entertainment by popular musicians. According to the leader of the National Institute against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism, Claudio Morgado, safe and legal abortion is a human rights issue in the same category of the equal marriage law passed last year, the new immigration act and the law of audiovisual media services. Legislator for the Civic Coalition, Diana Maffia, explained to telam.com.ar that there are an estimated 400 thousand clandestine abortions a year in Argentina and 350-400 women die from them.
