Argentina: Clarin fined for publishing sex trade advertisements

For the first time the Office to Monitor Publication Notices Sex Trade (OM) under the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights fined a national newspaper for violating the decree prohibiting post notices relating to the offer of sex.

As reported in Page 12 the amount rises to 362,534.40 pesos. It was this body after the body run five warnings. In the case of the sanction is noted for the inclusion in classified ads that “make explicit or implicit reference to the application of people for the sex trade.”

It is worth mentioning that since July 5, Decree 936/2011, signed by President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner prohibits the publication of the “ads that promote sexual offer, with the explicit or implicit reference to the application of persons assigned to sex by any means, in order to prevent the crime of trafficking for sexual exploitation and the gradual elimination of forms of discrimination against women. ”

For Clarin, the posted are for the recruitment of women. “This type of ads is probably the most serious of all, since it relates directly to the recruitment of women for sexual exploitation or trafficking in persons for these purposes,” said Chantal Stevens, head of the OM. Read Article
