Amid the controversy over the installation of open-pit mining in La Rioja, Selene Herrera’s lawyer, defender of protesters detained in Catamarca in a protest against such activity, said environmentalists were “charged” by the highly controversial Terrorism Act enacted late last year by Congress with harsh criticism from opposition sectors and social movements.

According to the lawyer said, environmentalists “are charged with Article 213 bis of the Penal Code, one of which is included in the Terrorism Act as a federal responsibility.” Herrera said that in addition to the cause involved, for the moment, Justice Catamarca.
