Argentina, 23% of children under 14 sexually active

The first national survey of health in schools published this month in the magazine Sociedad Argentina de Pediatría shows that 23% of adolescents in the country have sex before they are 14. 1,980 children between the ages of 13 and 16 were questioned for the report about their sexual behavior, showing that 1 in 10 had been sexually activity at the age of 13. Experts are concerned by the data believing children at that age are too young to be responsible about having sex. They are emotionally immature and most do not use condoms which leads to STDs and unplanned pregnancies that the children are unlikely to cope with. Children in Argentina need more sexual education with strong participation from family, teachers and the community that will teach kids responsible sexual practices, according to experts who spoke with aimdigital.com.
