American Dies After 16,000 kilometer Journey to Brazil

On May 15, 2013, Globo reported a 42-year old American by the name Richard Swanson who planned to walk 16,000 kilometers from Seattle, Oregon to Brazil, died. He was struck by a truck while walking alongside a road in Lincoln City, Oregon. Swanson’s journey to Brazil with a soccer ball at his feet was to help advance the “One World Futbol” project in California meant to donate soccer balls to developing countries. It was Swanson’s intentions to finish his excursion upon the commencement of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Read Article
