Alpaca fibers improve but prices remain low for farmers

Although the quality of alpaca fiber is improving as buyers, the cost is still low and farmers only get 170 new soles per month for the sale of that product, according to the Alpaca Project Binational responsible, Arnaut Finet. “Companies that buy alpaca fiber ensures that the quality has improved, however the income for farmers is less than 20 percent of the living wage in Peru,” he said.
