Absent father, a powerful figure in Mexican literature

Mexican authors Álvaro Enrique and Sandra Lorenzano gave an interview for El Universal in which they discussed the absent father figure in Mexican literature. The authors agreed that the father who is not physically or emotionally present paradoxically embodies a powerful influence over patriarchal Mexican society, as well as over their abandoned or orphaned children. These father figures are exemplified in Mexican literature through well-known characters like Pedro Páramo, Artemio Cruz and even Hernán Cortés. Read article.
