A message from above: Mexican narco group dumps political leaflets from plane

In an unprecedented event in Mexico, a drug trafficking organization dumped thousands of political leaflets on the city of Culiacán from a plane. Many narco groups in Mexico have attempted to influence the public by distributing pamphlets, using violence or posting YouTube videos, but never before has a message been dropped from the sky, Univision Noticias reports. The pamphlets accused the governor of the state of Sinaloa of taking orders from Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, who heads the Sinaloa cartel. The pamphlets were not signed; therefore, their origins are unknown. Experts speculate that this event is aimed at drawing attention to and pushing for the elimination of violent cartels, such as the Sinaloa cartel. The pamphlets were made on a computer and consisted of one page. The text protested the murder of a recent arrestee who had been sent to a prison supposedly dominated by the Sinaloa cartel.
