Likely “Terrorists” on Mexico’s Immigration Registry

The Federal Judicial Police conducted an operation on the central offices of Mexico’s National Institute of Immigration in Mexico City on February 15, 2011. El Proceso now reveals that the agents, who some sources indicate were US operatives, obtained a list of foreigners admitted to the country between 2008 and 2010, especially those from countries with a “high risk” for producing or harboring terrorists. The information indicated that several immigration requests were granted for persons from high risk countries clearly operating under aliases. Two officials from the Immigration Regulation department, who signed the immigration documents in question, were detained as a result of the investigation.
