Ecuador to open trade office in Iran

QUITO (Sputnik) – The Government of Ecuador announced the opening of a trade office in Iran which will aim to promote the “competitive advantages and attractive” the South American country.

“We want smart investment that creates jobs, develops technology, value-added, global production chain. We make efforts to generate sustainable investment and sustainable exports,” said the director of the Institute for the Promotion of Exports and Investments Pro Ecuador, Silvana Vallejo, at an economic forum held in Quito.

The date of opening of the office is still unknown, but authorities said they will in the coming weeks.

For its part, the vice president of the Chamber of Commerce of Iran, Farhad Sharif reiterated its continued support to “extend cooperation with Ecuador in the framework of public-private exercises that allow overcome the distances, costs and generate scientific exchange technology for both nations. ”

According to information from the International Trade Centre, Ecuador is the ninth country in the region to export to Iran and currently ranks as the seventh nation that receives non-oil exports of Iran in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Bananas, processed foods and Ecuadorian flowers are the main products exported to Iran, while Ecuador imports products related tools and metalworking industry.

The Commercial Economic Forum also attended by the Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Guillaume Long and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif. Read Article
