Major revamp of the Domestic Terminal at Ecuador’s second busiest gateway.

Location: Guayaquil International Airport, Ecuador

Important developments: Expansion of the existing terminal to 7mppa from 4.5mppa, includes new gates, concessions and passenger facilities.

Scheduled completion date: Summer 2014

Principal companies involved: Airport Authority of Guayaquil (AAG), TAGSA (part of the Corporación América) and Ekron. Total investment: $15 million

Ecuador’s second busiest gateway Guayaquil International Airport has been expanded to meet the challenges of rising demand.

The upgrades to the Domestic Terminal were completed on July 25, and has seen the floor space increased from 50,000sqm to 57,000sqm, making it the biggest airport terminal footprint in the country, while raising capacity to 7mppa from 4.5mppa.

Work was commenced in September 2013, and the heart of the expansion of the terminal, which was only built in 2006, was to improve passenger services, and it was inaugurated on July 31. Read Article
