Ecuador: 2014 increase in theft of historical artifacts

Elcomercio.com reported that trafficking in stolen artifacts from Ecuador has shown an increase in 2014. The Ecuadorian National Institute of Cultural Patrimony revealed that so far in 2014, there have been 17 reports of stolen historical items. Most of the thefts have occurred from convents, churches, and museums.
