Mexico: Crime up significantly in first months of Enrique Pena Nieto’s administration

According to infolaam.com, the crime rate in Mexico increased 16.9 percent in 2012 compared to 2011 and one in three Mexican households were affected, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). During the past year there were 27.7 million crimes, which represents a rate of 35,139 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the National Survey on Victimization and Perception of Public Safety. The uncertainty related to the wave of violence affecting Mexico rose to 72.3 percent of the population between March and April, the first months of the administration of President Enrique Pena Nieto, the institute showed a statistical survey released Monday.
