Salvador Mazza, Argentina: 90-Day Leave Granted to Mayor Caught in Human Trafficking Scandal

On August 18, 2013 Minuto Uno Noticias reported that the Salvador Mazza city council has granted a 90-day leave of absence to its mayor, Carlos Villalba, who was arrested last Thursday during a series of raids on a suspected human trafficking operation. The leave of absence request was passed despite heavy protest by provincial representatives and town residents calling for Villalba’s resignation. In the meantime, the city will be headed by City Council President Ricardo Figueroa.
The mayor is suspected of trafficking three girls from Jujuy to Salta with the intention of later transporting them further to Chile. At the time of the police raids, Villalba was found in the company of two women at a brothel. Read Article
