Panama City, Panama: Bail Denied to Accused Trafficking Suspects

On August 12, 2013 Crítica noticias reported that a judge in Panama City has denied bail to five suspects facing trial for human trafficking and money laundering. The accused, which include a Colombian female, a Jamaican male and three Panamanians, were arrested at the “La Jungla” bar, located in the El Terraplén waterfront area.
Authorities have since closed the bar, which also served as a brothel where three women testified being forced into prostitution by the suspects. One victim told authorities that she was initially contacted by the suspects in Colombia. When she arrived in Panama, the suspects seized her passport and locked her in a room until she agreed to work for them as a prostitute. Read Article
