La Vega, Dominican Republic: Police Arrest Suspected Leader of Trafficking Network

On June 25, 2013 El Nacional reported that police in La Vega, Dominican Republic have arrested a woman suspected of heading an international trafficking network. Anyely Margarita Méndez is accused of recruiting women under the false promise of jobs working in Lebanon as belly dancers in a nightclub. Instead, the Dominican victims were sent to work in a brothel owned by Tony Slaiby called “Súper White Line Night Club,” where the women were forced to have sex with as many as three men per day.

Considering the proliferation of such false offers, Dominican women are advised to exercise caution with job offers which include travel abroad, in particular to countries where Spanish is not spoken, as they could end up becoming trafficked for sexual exploitation. Read Article
