Bolivian authorities seize 5,000 baby alligators in crackdown on illegal species trafficking

Bolivia police seized five thousand live young alligators in an operation against animal trafficking in the eastern department of Santa Cruz, on the border with Brazil and Paraguay, announced today the Governor of Santa Cruz. The pups were taken to the city of Santa Cruz in trucks from the village of San Matias, located on the border of the Brazilian territory, an area rich in wetlands and animal diversity. The Secretary of Environment of the Government of Santa Cruz, Manlio Roca, said the alligators, the alligator species are now cared for and fed and could be reintegrated into their habitat.
