Murder Rate Against Homosexuals Triples in Brazil in Past Five Years

On January 11, 2013, Lainfomacion.com reported that the number of homosexuals murdered in Brazil tripled from 122 deaths in 2007 to 336 in 2012.  These numbers come from a study done by Grupo Gay da Bahia (GGB), using data from various levels of police.  The report also notes that the rate increased 26% from 2011.  Luiz Mott, founder of GGB, noted that Brazil is a conflicted country when it comes to homophobia.  “While it boasts the world’s largest single-day LGBT Pride Parade and one of the largest LGBT associations in Latin America, it also leads the world in murders against homosexuals,” he said.  Read Article
