Colombia thwarts drug route to United States with ties to FARC, Los Rastrojos

After 19 months of intelligence preparation, El Heraldo reports Colombian police have intercepted a drug route travelling from Colombia, through Central American countries such as Honduras, and into the United States. Mules, often young children, were used to deliver the drugs to their final destinations. Police arrested 18 people that trafficked heroin and cocaine along this route. 12 of these individuals were arrested in cities in the Nariño department, located in southwestern Colombia. The remaining suspects were apprehended in the departments of Antioquia and Valle del Cauca. These traffickers have been connected to FARC’s front 29, which would buy drugs in exchange for ammunition and weapons. The traffickers were also connected to the Los Rastrojos gang, which was paid for protection. Read Article
