Surco, Peru: Municipality of Surco on Alert, Increased Home and Car Theft, Robbery

According to Peru21.pe the Municipality of Surco has been raised to a ‘permanent alert’ due to increases of thefts and robberies. The mayor of Surco, Roberto Gomez Baca says that both home and car crimes have increased this year. Baca adds 180 vehicles have been stolen since the beginning of 2011. Officials say the cars were stolen and their owners assaulted on roads near the Hippodrome of Monterrico, the Southern Pan-American Highway and between Surco and San Borja. The mayor says that people should be on highest alert during the hours of 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., when most crimes occur. The government of Surco has hired an additional 300 agents to assist police on street patrol. The non-profit organization, Cuidad Nuestra reports that 40% of Lima’s residents have been victims of robbery or assault.Read Article
